Keep Being Vigilant

Our word for the year has been simple but powerful: KEEP.

Month after month, we've talked about keeping the faith, keeping moving forward, keeping our heads up, and keeping our focus. This month, the message remains the same. We need to keep being vigilant.

October shines a spotlight on two issues that touch far too many lives: Domestic Violence Awareness and Breast Cancer Awareness. Chances are, each of us has either exp

erienced one of these battles ourselves or knows someone who has.

That's why this month isn't just about awareness. It's about action. It's about watching out for ourselves and for one another.

Keep Your Eyes Open

Let's talk about domestic violence.

If you are in an abusive relationship, first and foremost, know this: you are not alone.

Abuse often thrives in silence, isolation, and fear. That's why it's so important to keep your wits about you. Document what is happening. Write things down. Take photographs when appropriate. Keep important records in a safe place. Have a "go bag" ready if you need to leave quickly. Learn about the resources available in your community before you need them.

Most importantly, remember that when you are ready to escape the violence, there are people waiting to help.

Tell someone.

Tell your family. Tell your friends. Tell your church. Tell the police. Tell the courts. Call a domestic violence hotline.

There is strength in reaching out, not weakness.

You do not have to carry that burden alone.

Keep Taking Care of Yourself

Now let's talk about breast cancer awareness.

Ladies, I know mammograms don't exactly rank up there with vacations, chocolate cake, or winning the lottery. But they matter.

Know your family history. Perform regular self-checks. Schedule those annual screenings, even when life gets busy and even when you'd rather be doing almost anything else.

Early detection saves lives.

And if you hear those dreaded words that something doesn't look quite right, don't panic. Find a doctor you trust. Ask questions. Get a second opinion if needed. Lean on your family and friends. Explore your treatment options and discover the path that is best for you.

Your health is worth advocating for.

Keep Each Other Lifted Up

Here's the truth: women are incredibly strong.

But we were never meant to do life alone.

We need to check on each other. Support each other. Encourage each other. Speak up for each other. Sit beside each other in waiting rooms. Answer late-night phone calls. Celebrate victories and help carry burdens.

Sometimes strength looks like fighting. Sometimes strength looks like asking for help.

Both are brave.

As we move through this month, let's commit to keeping vigilant about our safety, our health, and each other.

Let's keep paying attention.

Let's keep speaking up.

Let's keep showing up.

And most importantly, let's keep reminding every woman we know that she is valued, supported, and never alone.

Because when women stand together, amazing things happen.

Keep being vigilant. Keep being strong. Keep caring. Keep fighting. Keep believing. And above all, keep lifting each other up.
