The Hardest Part About Starting a New Job? Leaving Your Work Sisters Behind.

When you start a new job, everyone talks about the exciting stuff. The fresh start. The new opportunities. The chance to learn something different. The shiny new office supplies.
Nobody talks enough about what you leave behind. For me, the hardest part wasn't learning a new job. It wasn't figuring out new systems or remembering new names.
It was missing my girls.
You know the ones. The women you practically stumble into on Monday mornings, coffee in hand, ready to download every detail of the weekend before you've even logged into your computer. The women who can turn an ordinary Tuesday into a comedy show because one inside joke resurfaces at exactly the right moment. The women who close their office door, pull up a chair, and listen when life decides to life a little harder than usual. The women who suggest grabbing lunch and somehow, magically, lunch turns into a TJ Maxx run because apparently looking at decorative pillows and seasonal clearance items is therapy.
And honestly? They're not just coworkers. Somewhere between deadlines, staff meetings, chaos, and coffee runs, they become family. They become the women who know your stories. The women who celebrate your victories. The women who talk you off the ledge when you're convinced everything is falling apart. The women who know exactly what you're thinking from one look across the room. They become your sisters.
Then one day you go and do something ridiculous, like accept another job. Rude.
Suddenly, your daily dose of laughter disappears. The spontaneous office chats disappear. The random "come sit in my office for a minute" conversations disappear.
At first, it feels weird. Then life starts doing what life does. Schedules get crazy. Work gets busy. Families need attention. Dogs need attention. Everything needs attention. Before you know it, weeks turn into months.
But here's the beautiful thing about real friendships. They don't disappear just because a job changes. When the group text finally explodes with a date that miraculously works for everyone, nobody skips a beat. You pick up right where you left off.
The jokes are still funny. The laughter is still loud. The stories are somehow even better. And because it's been months instead of days, there's even more to catch up on. More victories. More frustrations. More ridiculous stories. More opportunities to laugh until someone snorts.
Because let's be honest, we're busy women. But we're also women who genuinely care about each other. We want to know what's happening in each other's lives. We want to celebrate one another's wins. We want to hear the stories. We want the laughter. We want the connection.
And when all the calendars finally align and everyone gathers around the same table again, it's a reminder that some friendships were never meant to stay inside the walls of an office. They were meant to survive job changes, busy seasons, and the passage of time.
So, if it takes a few months to get together, that's okay. That just means there's more tea to spill. And when it all finally falls into place? It's absolutely beautiful.
